Designer smitten: Naeem Khan has the ladies swooning as Saks Fifth Avenuebigwigs look on
Charming — that would be Naeem Khan as he worked the foyer of Hotel ZaZa prior to seating for the Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation's Catwalk for a Cure luncheon.
He loved how the leather dress specially ordered and tailored for luncheon chair Millette Sherman looked on the lithe blonde. He adored how luncheon chair Susan Plank had covered the bare shoulders of her red and black beaded dress with a little black shrug to make it luncheon suitable. And he warmly greeted the third chair, Sarah Simon, even though she hadn't had time to find a Naeem for the event. Instead she wore Dolce & Gabbana.
The ladies who had attended the underwriter dinner with him at Hotel Granduca the night before swarmed. The femmes that were in the small private dinner with him on Tuesday crowded around. Not since Oscar de la Renta have we seen a fashion designer cause such a wave of smitten females in a Houston setting.

Allie Fields, who took bows as honoree with her husband Jay Fields, found the beaded T-shirt by Naeem just the right piece beneath her leather jacket. Greggory Burk, honored along with her husband Pat Burk, wore a Naeem skirt. It seemed that every woman, who could find something from the designer's cache of glam designs, dressed to please.
It was a special day for Saks Fifth Avenue GM Terry Zmyslo, who was hosting Saks CEO Steve Sadove at the luncheon for which the department store brought Naeem in. "This is one of our most important stores," Sadove said in the midst of greeting top clients. "It's important for me to be in Houston."
The real star of the day was Melissa Amschwand Bellinger, founder of the event that raises funds for research into sarcoma cancer and for providing support for families affected by the disease. She is also the force behind the all-volunteer Amschwand Sarcoma Cancer Foundation. Taking bows as the days honoree was Shelby Robin, a pediatric cancer nurse at M.D. Anderson Children's Cancer Center. She lost her leg to sarcoma as a child.
Swooning and we do mean swooning over Naeem Khan's Resort and Spring 2012 collections that dazzled on the runway were guests including Donna Bruni, Becca Cason Thrash, Stephanie Cockrell, Rosemary Schatzman, DeeDee Marsh, Courtney Hopson, Liz Glanville, Amy Lee, Ceron, Dee Dee Gugenheim and Christie Sullivan.
