Breast cancer survivors and their supporters rally at "Razzle Dazzle 'em Pink!"benefit luncheon
Internationally-published author and breast cancer survivor Geralyn Lucasnot only brought most in the audience at the Westin Memorial City ballroom to tears but she also shed a few crocodile biggies herself. But the poignant moments of her talk about dealing with breast cancer at the tender age of 27 were accompanied by loads of laughs and an optimism that was pure inspiration.
When she finished her remarks, Lucas received a standing ovation from those attending the Memorial Hermann Foundation "Razzle Dazzle 'em Pink!" luncheon benefiting the Bobetta C. Lindig Breast Center at Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center. Practically everyone in the room emotionally embraced the now 44-year-old mother of two. Her book, Why I Wore Lipstick to My Mastectomy, was a fast-moving item at the luncheon bazaar.
The benefit honored Dr. Stephen Rose, founder and president of Rose Imaging Specialists, and Laura S. Ward, Houston Children's Charity founding executive director.
For the second consecutive year, the "Razzle Dazzle 'em Pink!" luncheon was chaired by Ann Cazalot, Suzie Johnson, Christine Napier, Karen Stall and Donna Vallone. Their efforts resulted in a crowd of 400 and proceeds of $137,000.
Key players in the day included Keith Alexander, Memorial Hermann Memorial City Medical Center CEO; Ileana Trevino, Memorial Hermann Foundation CEO; and Bill and Bobetta Lindig, for whom the breast center is named.
Among the many friends of the chairs and honorees attending were Dave Ward, Frann Lichtenstein, Leisa Holland-Nelson, Sheridan Williams, Carol Linn, Soraya McClelland, Sandy Barrett, Sue and Lester Smith, Cyndy Garza and Sybil Balasco.
