Houston: We have a future. Just ask historian James Fallows and guests attendingthe Impact Gala
The mood at the Center for Houston's Future Impact Gala was so much more cerebral than at most of the city's evening fundraising events. And that was a welcome change of pace for the 350 guests at River Oaks Country Club who had signed on for more meaty matter.
Historian James Fallows, national correspondent for The Atlantic, was interviewed by Y. Ping Sun, a Center for Houston's Future Leadership Forum alumn and Rice University representative, with part of the discussion focusing on his most recent book, China Airborne. In addition to discussion with Sun, Fallows took questions from the audience, during which he declared, "We have confidence in Houston's future."
The event was chaired by Alex and Astley Blair and honored Bill Boyar, recipient of the inaugural CHF Impact Award.
Filling out the ballroom were CHF board chair James Calaway, CFH president and CEO Catherine C. Mosbacher, Anne and Dr. John Mendelsohn, Irene and Lupe Fraga, David Leebron, Molly and Jim Crownover, Gini and Richard Mithoff, Gwen Goffe, Shirley and Jim Dannenbaum and Janet and Harvin Moore.
