Rockin' the Runway
Houston stylist fuses art and fashion in wild runway show with colorful designs like you've never seen
It was all about color for the dashing Pedro Abasolo as he presented his third annual fashion show, this year at the J.W. Marriott Downtown. The invitation-only event is a special thank you that the owner of Ovations Hair Studio gifts upon his clients and friends.
For the 2015 edition, Abasolo tapped Chloe Dao and Bolivian designer Rosita Hurtado, based in Miami, to share their creations with the gathering of 350.
The colorful presentation began with Aztec dancers setting the lively pace and followed with Hurtado's "Viva Mexico" collection. There was no denying her fashion tribute to fashion icons Frida Khalo and Cantinflas among others. Color and energy ruled the runway. Kicking it up a notch further were the paper artistry hairpieces created by Balushka.
The glamorous Yridia Gonzalez emceed the runway program that featured a larger than life work of art created by Edgar Medina just for the occasion. Abasolo, an art collector, tapped Medina to create the piece called, Pedro Abasolo Freedom Runway. The party host surprised the artist by informing him that the work will become part of the hotel's multi-million dollar art collection.
Enthusiastically embracing the bold looks were guests including Franca Florio, Victoria Lynn Johnson, Monica Lehmann, Bonet and Dulce Garcia, Maria Castillo Valle, Jose Montalvo, Iliana and Greg Romero, Pablo Madrigali and Ric Ancira.
