Deacons of Deadwood annual blowout mixes motorcycle madness, Foghat & the FabFive
Ten proved to be a lucky number for the Deacons of Deadwood, that friendly leather-clad bunch that rides for charity each year. The 10th annual charity fundraiser, this year benefiting Camp for All, doubled last year's on all levels.
As many as 250 bikers and biker babes poured into Mo's A Place for Steaks for the first half of the evening that typically begins with a cocktail party and continues on with a group ride to a bigger party venue. But not on this night. You remember last week's rain? That downpour caused Deacons of Deadwood president Stephen Lamb to put the kabosh on the ride. But spirits were not apparently dampened.
By the time the crew arrived at Verizon Wireless Theater for Act II of the benefit, it was clearly time to party. The early birds were joined by another 350 revelers who rocked and rolled through the warm-up performance of the Fab Five. The dance floor was packed during the Beatles tribute. But when it came time for British rockers Foghat, the crowd settled down and watched the performance concert style. You can see that concert here.
A financial assets manager by day, Lamb said of the night, "It was beyond my expectations, beyond anything I ever could have hoped for."
Dressing up in leather and road gear was a colorful group that included Mary Jane Moran and Bob Loiseau, Carla Luttrell, Brittnea and Randy Panttila, Kirk and Kimmie Lane, Vicki and Gene Poe, Rhonda Kores, Joan and Doug McLeod and Paige Glass.
Welcoming the bunch to Mo's was owner Johnny "V"Vassallo, who skipped the biker attire for sports coat and slacks.
