Hundreds partied wildly while channeling Beyoncé, Michael Jackson & the VillagePeople
Even in sweltering summer, Houston party animals will throw on a costume for a good time. Just check out Saturday night's crowd at Planned Parenthood's "Party Like a Rock Star" bash at the House of Deréon Media Center.
Most of the 450 revelers stepped out in some form of celeb garb with sightings of everyone from Michael Jackson (aka Edward Sanchez) to Weird Al Yankovic (aka James Glassman) to Kinky Friedman (aka Peter Durkin, Planned Parenthood's CEO).
Partygoers grooved to the spins of DJ Brasco while sizing up the costuming competition. Jenn Char, channeling Beyoncé, joined Erin and Adrian Patterson (a close facsimile of Run of Run-DMC) as chairs of the event that raised $50,000 for Planned Parenthood Gulf Coast.
In a twist on the party fun, Norm Ewart celebrated his 50th birthday on this night by inviting 50 friends to join him on a party bus — destination "Party Like a Rock Star."
Guests springing for the VIP tickets watched the action from the balcony level where the bounty of eats was provided by Pondicheri, Canopy, Antidote and Dacapo's. The Breakfast Klub stepped in at midnight to provide a breakfast spread. The Oh my! Pocket Pies food truck was outside adding to the bites provided by Melange Creperie.
Soaking up the colorful scene were State Rep. Carol Alvarado, State Sen. Mario Gallegos, Kris Banks, James Cardona, Katy Caldwell, Kathryn McNiel, Lillie Schechter, Iris McAlpine and Angela and Dallas Jones.
