Cool wines, hot pizza and great looking guys make for a Tasting Room success forSEARCH
It was a beautiful partnership between BoyarMiller and The Tasting Room that resulted in a windfall of school uniforms for SEARCH Homeless Services and a great night for fans of the popular wine bar. The second annual "Back to School with SEARCH" brought in a whopping $14,250 for school uniforms for homeless youngsters.
"This money will go such a long way to help outfit children at SEARCH as they prepare to go back to school," emailed Chris Hanslik, BoyarMiller chairman. "Our goal was to purchase five uniforms each for 100 kids. But with the extra funds raised ($10K was our goal), we are looking into a new pair of shoes for each child and additional school supplies as well!"
In the process of raising the big bucks, the pizzas were fab, the crowd intense and the wines soooooo tasteful. The finale of the month-long fundraiser, also co-sponsored by CultureMap and Brand Extract, drew a handsome after-work set of several hundred to the CityCentre Tasting Room. Bill Boyar and Gary Miller, founding shareholders of the BoyarMiller law firm, led the happy hour scene where Tasting Room owners Laura and Jerry Lasco welcomed the crush.
"It's really important stuff,"said Boyar, who has been involved with SEARCH for seven years and was board chair for two. "Our mission is taking care of people. We serve 10,000 clients a year in a variety of programs . . . Educating adults and children, that's the key to being able to sustain jobs."
For $20, just the amount needed to purchase a school uniform, partygoers were entitled to one of The Tasting Room's artisanal pizzas. Matt Gelotti and Bill Stratton dug into an Italian sausage concoction with loads of cheese and red onion. For Taylor Liedtke and Lee Collins, the pepperoni and olives combo was the ticket. These four were among the load of handsome gents who made for a visually-pleasing landscape for the femmes attending.
And, yes, the ladies went for the pizza as well. Everyone within eyesight swooned over the prosciutto and arugula number selected by Laura Sneed. Her tablemates Samantha Craig and Jeneane Benavidez ordered margarita and garlic chicken pizzas, respectively.
The party crowd included Toni Miller, Vanee and Steven Kesten, Kristen and Chad Daniel, Kimberly Sparrow, Carey Kirkpatrick, Joyce Groves and John Knox Jr.
