Coogs (Beer) House: UH Young Professionals take over Karbach in a crafty rising stars moment
With the Big Ass Fan whirring overhead at Karbach Brewing Co. and the aroma of fresh brewing hops filling the air, the stage was set after work Thursday for the University of Houston Rising Stars to party down. And that they did, 100 strong, celebrating the university that gave them a foothold in H-Town's bustling young professionals scene.
The event was a thank-you to recent grads who've shown the love for UH through financial contributions, both large and small. As Carlos Reyes, class of 2012, said, addressing the casual crowd, "Whether it's $5 or $500, it still benefits the university."
As president of the Young Alumni Network of the UH Alumni Association, Reyes served as amicable cheerleader amid the UH grads who sported plenty of school spirit red in T-shirts, tank tops and party beads and sipped their beer from glasses dressed in red UH koozies. All were ready for the "Who's house? Coogs house!" cheer that went up after the beer tasting had reached a comfortable pitch.
Popular Karbach brews for the tasting from the tap included Love Street Summer Seasonal, Hop Delusion, El Hopadillo and the double IPA Rodeo Clown. Phoenicia Specialty Foods provided the party trays to help balance the effect of the brewskies.
UH grads enjoying the special thank you included Jonas Chin, Angela Parker, Alexis Hoey, Wendy Ballard, Steven Reiss, sisters Mala and Sharda Sharma, Andrew Conachey, Tim Hanna, Jonathan Bell, Wendy Torres, Gabby Parra and Trenton Roberts.
