Shelby's Social Diary
Erica Rose, Vanity Fair editor and more colorful characters populate Rose Ribbonbenefit
Any of the 80 movers and shakers packed diamonds to diamonds in the wine room at Fleming's River Oaks on Thursday night will attest that the city continues to rock and roll even though summer is upon us.
The Rose Ribbon Foundation benefit dinner, compliments of Fleming's operating partner Maeve Pesquera, filled the space to over-flowing with a glam contingent that had Rose Ribbon founders Cindi Rose and Dr. Franklin Rose beaming. How could the guest turnout be anything less with the well-connected Jessica Rossman and Melissa Fertel chairing and the drop-dead gorgeous duo Gina and Dr. Devinder Bhatia as honorees?
Headliner, of course, was Erica Rose, just back from LA where she filmed an episode for E! True Hollywood featuring 10 of the former bachelorettes. She's off to New York this week for the VH1 premier on Wednesday of You're Cut Off. Looking slim, serene and surprisingly feminine, she explained her new persona, "I'm happy with my life. I'm happy with everything that I'm doing."
Clearly taken with Erica was David Friend, Vanity Fair editor of creative development, even though she was somewhat off his subject. Friend is in Houston researching a book on sexuality in the '90s (a wee bit before Erica's time) and is interviewing Franklin for his renowned work in the breast implant arena. Twelve, an interesting publishing concept in itself, is behind the book.
With the dinner underwritten by Pesquera and loads of desirable auction items, the night brought in $50,000 for the program that provides reconstructive surgery for cancer patients who have no health insurance. Beyond several fab wine offerings, the rose gold, 30-karat pink quartz earrings designed by Angelica Ximenes-Chapman were on every girl's want list. Jessica Rossman was high bidder after Ursaline Hamilton, who was modeling, finally relinquished the beauties. The Bhatias and Fiore Talarico both donated cases of prized wine from their collections for the auction. And Carolyn Farb served as auctioneer.
In the mix were Franco Valobra, Jessica and Philip Meyer, Charles Reimer, Alex Martinez, Jo Barrett, Catherine and Dr. Cenk Ozdogan, Dr. Jacob Varon, Karen and Rudy Wildenstein, Mindy and Stephen Finger, Kristen Cannon, Beth Bryant and Ed Chapman.
