Artful frolic
Celebrating local artists, Houston Fine Art Fair patrons get a running start on September fest
If the turnout for the Houston Fine Art Fair launch party is any indication, the Sept. 18-21 extravaganza at NRG Center should be a roaring success. Close to 300 art enthusiasts gathered at Asia Society Texas Center for the cocktail reception that featured formal announcement of the HFAF Hall of Fame honorees.
It was a meaningful locale for the kickoff as the Asia Society will be the beneficiary of the Sept. 18 opening night preview party, which has proven in the initial three years to be a stylish affair bubbling over with artists, gallerists, collectors and social mavens.
Welcoming the enthusiastic group were Asia Society executive director Bonna Kol and arts patron and gallerist Deborah M. Colton, who heads the HFAF steering committee. In from the Hamptons for the launch was HFAF founder and producer Rick Friedman with Cindy Lou Wakefield.
Special guest was author and retired Houston Chronicle arts editor Patricia Covo Johnson, who selected the 17 artists to be included in the Hall of Fame.
HFAF supporters on hand included Nancy Allen, Anita and Gerald Smith, Fran Fawcett Peterson, Anita Garten, Wendy Watriss and Fred Baldwin, Jereann Cheney, Eddie Allen, Lily Foster, Anthony Foster and Carolyn and Jimmy Robertson.
