Party Watch
Houston theater stage set to close down for good, but not before one last great party (and play)
What: Alley Theatre opening night partying for Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike.
Where: The Alley Theatre.
The 411: The partying began with a pre-performance dinner by City Kitchen with 200 Alley patrons gathering in the 16th floor Fondren Rehearsal Studio. Before the curtain went up on the final production for the Hubbard Stage (last performance June 15), Alley artistic director Gregory Boyd and managing director Dean Gladden spoke about playwright Christopher Durang, whose Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike won a Tony for Best Play. It also won Best Play from the New York Drama Critics Circle, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle, the Drama League Award and the Off-Broadway Alliance Award.
Following the on-stage chuckles generated by the off-beat comedy, guests and actors shared cheers and champagne in the Mitchell Lobby.
Who: Mady and Ken Kades, Kathryn and Jim Ketelsen, Jessie Marion, Connie and Roger Plank, Sharyn and Jim Weaver, Beth Madison, Laura Bellows and Jack Pendergrast, Christina and Steve Morse and C.C. and Duke Ensell.
