As the social season winds down, there couldn't have been a better pre-Memorial Day fundraiser than the casual "Delish Dish" at Gregory Fourticq's modern home in Glendower Court Tuesday night. He along with Sara Dodd-Spickelmier and Keith Spickelmier co-hosted the at-ease benefit for Recipe for Success.
No fuss, no muss, no speeches. Just great Tex-Mex (Armandos taco truck was out front) served buffet style in the kitchen, frosty margaritas flowing and the pre-summer schmoozing running in high gear.
The expansive townhouse, brimming with Gregory's intriguing modern art collection and a sprinkling of rich antiques, provided an ample setting for the scores of guests who poured in to support the program that battles childhood obesity through public school initiatives.
Gracie Cavnar, founder and head of Recipe for Success Foundation, breezed through the gathering thanking all as she has for the dozen or so other dinner evenings that have raised funds for the cause this spring. Tops on her thank-you list on Tuesday, beyond the hosts, were Central Market, which donated the food, and the highly attentive volunteers from the Art Institute's International Culinary School as well as the Recipe for Success team of "change agents."
In some ways, it was a bon voyage party as Patsy and Greg Fourticq, the host's parents, are heading to Colorado on Saturday for their summer in the Rockies. Andrew Echols is winging to Paris shortly for the round of parties benefiting the Louvre. Karen and Mike Mayell are exiting for their California vacation home for the holiday weekend ahead.
In a different sort of travel mode, Betty and Steve Newton are packing their bags at A Bientot's Westheimer location as they prepare to move the popular boutique around the corner (same shopping center) to River Oaks Boulevard a much larger space, that was previously occupied by Harriet Hart.
The party crowd included Elizabeth Arnold, William Middleton, Ann and Mathew Wolf, Martha Finger, Libby Cagle, Cabrina and Steve Owsley, Laura and Dr. Mike Sweeney, Bill Caudell, Randy Powers, Anne Farish, Beth Muecke, Liz Decker and Barbara and Michael Gamson.
