Afros and bell bottoms — this partying crowd channeled the '70s in a disco twiston the Heart Ball
They pulled out the colorful Afro wigs, the bell-bottom pants and platform boots for the American Heart Association Northwest Houston's Heart Ball that played a retro tune at the Hilton Americas-Houston on Saturday night.
Beth and Jerry Eaton and Cindy and Robert Smith chaired the "Stayin' Alive" gala for which they donned their most inspired disco threads.
In a playful fashion twist, so many of the female guests found their '70s costuming on the Internet that there appeared to be a definite fashion trend among the gathering of 350 — brightly sequined bell bottoms teamed with tops that featured large bell sleeves. It was the perfect look for the dance party that had guests discoing late into the evening to the sounds of The Works.
Taking bows as honorees were Farouk Shami, Jeannie and Nolan Lehmann and Thomas Markle, who spent more than $32,000 on various auction items. By night's end, AHA coffers were enriched by $330,000.
Cardiologists in the mix, loaded with info on advancements in the prevention of heart disease, included Dr. Gustavo Grieco and Dr. Cliff Kitten.
Grooving to the disco tunes were guests including Sherry and Michael Reiland, Sandra and Keith Peterson, Harold and Nelda Wallace, Andrea Garrity, Betty and David Chenault, Jan and Jim Harris, Laura and Peter Goebel, Martha and Tim Rodabaugh and Debbie and Stan Horton.
