Not bad for a Sunday supper: Casa de Esperanza's "Building Hope for Children"brings in a record $850,000
God bless Lucia and Michael Cordúa. For the 22nd consecutive year, the philanthropic-minded couple has hosted a Sunday night fundraising fete for Casa de Esperanza and, this year, records were broken.
With more than 650 guests pouring into the Hobby Center in support of the haven for children in crises, proceeds topped $850,000. Funds raised at this annual "Building Hope for Children" benefit covers 40 percent of the operating costs of Casa de Esperanza, which provides residential, medical and psychological care for children in need due to abuse, neglect or the effects of HIV.
It was, by all accounts, a great night for dinner chairs Cam and Rod Canion and their son and daughter-in-law, Ross and Sarah Jane Canion.
Before sitting down to a signature Cordúa Catering dinner, guests perused the big board offerings and auction items and geared up for bidding that was under the gavel of the evening's emcee Tom Koch, ABC Ch. 13 news anchor.
Supporters mingling in the Hobby Center foyer included Vivien and Scott Caven, Soraya and Scott McClelland, Marsha and Charlie Parker, Frances and Tim Arnoult, Cindy and Randy Garbs, Christiana and Luke McConn, Jan and Tom Simmons, Sally and Forrest Hoglund, Brenda Love and Ed Jones and Connie and Tommy Wright.
