Splendor in the Night
Inside the Houston Grand Opera Ball: Video with Lynn Wyatt details glittery white-tie spectacle
By all accounts, Houston Grand Opera's España ball was one of the most beautiful on record, the Spanish-inspired theme lending itself for lavish floral displays and grand murals depicting matadors, flamenco dancers and a flower-decked colonial arcade. The Events Co. worked the design magic while opera chairs Robin Angly and Miles Smith orchestrated the white-tie evening that raised $1.3 million for HGO coffers.
The ladies were resplendent in their gowns and dazzling jewels, set free from the bank vaults for the night, while the gents were divine in their white-tie-and tails.
Among the glitterati were Cynthia and Anthony Petrello, Hector Villarreal, Janet Gurwitch and Ron Franklin, Bobby Vee and Gerald Cooney, Dian and Harlan Stai, Celina Hellmund, and Valerie and Tracy Dieterich.
Watch the video above for a peek inside the spectacular white-tie evening as longtime Houston Grand opera supporter Lynn Wyatt, HGO artistic director Patrick Summers and managing director Perryn Leech describe the action.
