Major music act's private concert at private club serves as big thank you to powerful Houston donors

The 411: The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston celebrated its most generous donors with a lavish picnic-style dinner followed by the concert. During the evening, UTHealth president Dr. Giuseppe N. Colasurdo presented the country singer with the UTHealth Medal of Distinction. Walker was recognized for his efforts at advancing the UTHealth mission through his philanthropy, community outreach and advocacy.
Walker was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis 17 years ago and thanks to treatment led by UTHealth neurologist Dr. Jerry Wolinsky, Walker is in remission. He founded the nonprofit Band Against MS which supports MS research, including research at UTHealth.
Also an MS patient, emcee Melanie Lawson, KTRK Channel 13 news anchor, shared her story of living with the disease for more than 20 years.
