It's surf's up for the University of Houston Law Center supporters: Lawyers &judges ride Coog wave
They might have stepped out in black-tie finery, but University of Houston Law Center supporters partied like it were a day at the beach. With the "Caught the Wave" theme and a welcoming committee of a calypso steel drum band, it was hard for these Cougars not to get in the "surf's up" spirit.
More than 500 revelers poured into the Legends Ballroom of the InterContinental Houston to party amid a virtual sea of ocean-inspired decor. Following the program and live auction, passengers on this movable feast transferred to the smaller Discovery Ballroom where "sailors" served luscious sweets in a dessert extravaganza and where a mermaid reigned from an elevated throne.
No worries on the calorie count. Dancing to the tunes of Infinite Groove help the fat burning.
It all took place under the watchful eyes of chairs Shelley and Bob Schick, class of '81, and Dean Raymond T. Nimmer.
Swimming with the tide were Judy and Bill Maynard, Melinda and Sam Stubbs, Diana Marshall and Lauren and Warren Harris and loads of judiciary including Judge Steven Kirkland, Judge Laura Higley and Bob Higley, Judge David Hittner, Judge Vanessa Gilmore, Susannah and Judge Jeff Brown, Andrea and Judge Reece Rondon and Eva and Judge Michael Engelhart.
