Charity City: Houston's 11th million dollar gala in 2012 brings out the tears
Ladies of the Covenant House Texas Guild are still celebrating the astounding success of their recent gala that raised a record $1 million for programs aiding the homeless youths that find sanctuary at the Montrose-area residential facility.
Almost $200,000 of that came that evening from the appeal for funds for the Scholarships of Hope with emcee Linda Lorelle and David Baggett, on crutches no less, leading the call. No one could have been more pleased with the evening's success than Covenant House executive director Ronda G. Robinson.
Chaired by Kristen and Neal Carlson, the evening honored Aimee and Wynne Snoots, hands-on supporters of Covenant House for more than a dozen years.
Joining them in the fundraising effort were guild president Amanda Crump and underwriting chairs Mary and John Eads and Denise Baggett and husband David, who happens to be Aimee Snoot's brother.
While this fundraiser, "Casino Royale: Betting on Our Youth!" had its light-hearted moments with casino games and bidding in live and silent auctions, the testimonial by Covenant House client Kingsley Ekuchukwu proved so moving that the eye faucets worked overtime.
