Student nurses in cocktail dresses invade Tootsies for record-breaking luncheon
For someone who confessed that she would rather wash my car than get up before the packed house at River Oaks Country Club on Thursday, Jana Arnoldy did a remarkable job as co-chair of the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Friends of Nursing luncheon. How could she fail what with her model good-looks and her ebullient charm? And with her co-chair hubby John Scott Arnoldy at her side, the presentation was flawless.
As was the execution of the luncheon that drew close to 400 enthusiastic supporters who helped raise a record $250,000 for nursing scholarships, the highest total in the 22-year history of the benefit. That according to Mr. Arnoldy, who serves not only as president of the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital board but also as a director of the St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital System.
Scotty, as friends know him, enlisted two fellow St. Luke's supporters, Dan Tutcher and Joe Pyne, to join him in the Tootsies fashion show as escorts for several of the nurses who joined professional models in several sashays down the catwalk. Each of the the three wore tuxes as the nurses modeled cocktail clothes.
For the show, Tootsies and Mickey Rosmarin presented designerKay Ungerin a personal appearance and a lineup of her current designs on the runway as well as a selection of other au courant pieces including sundresses from Houstonian Gregory Fourticq's Times Two line. His trés proud mother, Patsy Fourticq, was in the audience as were Kim Tutcher and Tina Pyne, applauding their husband's modeling skills.
In a coincidence that only a higher power could have orchestrated, the Rev. Carol R. Petty, who gave the invocation, won the raffle for a Kay Unger dress, compliments of Tootsies. It just so happens that the reverend is getting married in a few weeks and while she was planning on wearing a six-year-old suit, this win gave her a fresh wedding dress option.
Among the most generous supporters of the day were the Arnoldys, Carol Linn, Denise Monteleone, Dr. Veronica Selinko-Curran, Rose Cullen, Suzanne Levin, Jo Lynn Falgout, Shirley Stein, Evelyn Howell, Sandy Barrett, Pam Ott and Patricia Dewhurst, wife of the Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst.
