Singing for a cause: Three nights of vocal partying bring in close to $1 million for Junior League
As is long-standing tradition, Junior League of Houston members and a handful of gents sang their hearts out at the Junior League Charity Ball, this year a three-night fundraiser that enriched charity coffers by $850,000.
Leading the charge in their colorful ball gowns each of the evenings were Junior League president Catherine McCoin, Charity Ball chair Elizabeth Love and underwriting chair Keri Herrin.
The musical theme followed a trip down the bayou with musical stops at the old Shamrock Hilton Hotel, Gilley's and the Catacombs Club. The decorative theme, thanks to Darryl & Co. and Moss Landscaping, transformed the Junior League of Houston party space into a verdant (think lush greenery and trees in the decor) setting along the "bayou's" edge.
The Charity Ball is the primary source of funding for the League’s community programs. Underwriting dollars from the evening support various community efforts that provide approximately $2 million in trained volunteer time and direct financial support to 37 community and Junior League-initiated programs.
Among the 38 cast members who made this night sing were Nancy Jane Otto, Richard Nevins, Kay Edwards, Sharon Snowden, Lou Ann Nolan, Don Callendar, Elizabeth Karkowsky, Sellers Thomas, Bethany Buchanan, Blake Pellerin and Don Callender.
