The Bon Temps Ball
Junior League lets the good times roll at two-night Mardi Gras gala with amazing auction items
Throughout the brick and mortar home of the Junior League of Houston, a New Orleans beat thrummed the night away as the annual Charity Ball adopted a Mardi Gras theme complete with showers of purple, green and gold beads; a Mardi Gras float; dueling pianos; and diamonds by the yard.
Yes, the diamonds, an 18-karat white gold and diamond disc pendant featuring 4.5 carats of diamonds on an 18-karat white gold diamonds by-the-yard chain chain, were the contribution of the league's community partner Tenenbaum Classic Jewelers. The jewels were one of several "gotta-have" auction items including luxurious getaways that added to proceeds of more than $900,000 for the Junior League of Houston's numerous community projects.
Applause, applause for the ladies who made the 68th annual Charity Ball a success — ball chair Amy Dunn; underwriting chair Shannon Addison; community partner chair Beth Zdeblick; ad sales chair Sarah Stuhldreher; and auction chair Melissa Nance. Welcoming guests on the two-night, back-to-back fundraiser were the gala chair and Junior League president Mary Margaret "Mimi" Foerster.
Each night of the "Bon Temps Ball" featured New Orleans-themed bands, along with musical and variety acts presented by talented Junior League members as part of a bluesy dinner theater.
Tripping Mardi Gras style were Jeannie and Rob Chandler, Carol and John Landers, Janet and Forrest Jenkins, Sarah and Greg Nordin, Jennifer and John Daly, Kevin Comiskey, Julie and Anders Gibson, Sara and Ephraim del Pozo, and Katie Montgomery Mears and Whitney Mears.
