Lady Gaga and James Bond team up for a Junior League fantasy
Think classic Aston Martins. Think glam babes and tough guys in tuxedos. Think James Bond's Casino Royale.
That's exactly what the Junior League of Houston was envisioning on Saturday night when 450 partygoers embraced a 007 esthetic for the annual Charity Ball. From the traditional musical show held in the JLH ballroom, to casino games to a lavishly-decorated dining tent (thank you Darryl Murchison), every aspect of the fundraiser read Bond, James Bond. And did we mention the platinum, classic Aston Martin parked in front of the Junior League building, which on this evening was awash in ruby-hued lighting.
With the guidance of choreographers Bill Bartlett and Misty Porter, the annual showcase of JLH talent featured the songs and dance from Bond movies and included a surprise visit by "Lady Gaga," aka longtime JLH supporter Richard Nevins.
Key players in the overall production were JLH president Jeannie Rich Chandler with husband Bob, gala chair Kim Hankamer with husband Ron, show chairman Bonnie Inamdar with husband Amay, underwriting chair Becky Pivec with husband Wayne and decorations chair Sara Litton.
James Bond movie themes wafted through the Junior League building where the party spread from room to room while guests tried their hand at blackjack, roulette, poker and craps as well as a wheel of fortune. At night's end, the winningest "high rollers" were named. Walking away with the best of luck was Cara Koza and second place "high roller" was Rob Chandler.
The 007 crowd included Perry Ann and John Reed, Susie and Ashe Ackerman, Cynthia and Mickey Mills, Lauren and Warren Harris, Elizabeth Farish, Kathy and Ronnie Hankamer, Dorothy and Mickey Ables, Joan and Chris Pappas and Carol and Brad Deason.
