Feeling hungry
Favorite Houston Mediterranean restaurant plans new Tanglewood location with dog-friendly patio and more
One of Houston’s most enduring Mediterranean restaurants will soon add a third location. Hungry’s has claimed the former Le Peep space at 5750 Woodway Dr. for a new restaurant.
Scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2023, the new Hungry’s will join its sister locations in Rice Village and the Energy Corridor. Owned by Fred Sharifi, his nephew Ashkan Nowamooz, and Ashkan’s wife, chef Sue Nowamooz, Hungry’s Concepts also includes the Upstairs Bar & Lounge above Hungry’s in Rice Village; Heartbeet, a plant-based restaurant that opened next to Hungry’s Energy Corridor location last year; and Baba Yega Café, the Montrose staple that’s currently undergoing renovations after being damaged by fire in 2018.
“This is a true passion project for our families,” Hungry’s vice president of development Nousha Nowamooz (daughter of Ashkan and Sue) said in a statement. “We like to think of Hungry’s as your go-to neighborhood restaurant and not feel guilty about what you’re putting into your body.”
Located in Tanglewood, the new Hungry’s will serve the same Mediterranean-inspired comfort food that has been the restaurant’s calling card since 1975. The wide-ranging menu includes pizzas, salads, sandwiches, kebabs, gyros, and more for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch. To keep up with contemporary tastes, diners will also find a selection of plant-based dishes imported from Heartbeet.
“We like to think of this new location as the ‘best of’ our menus,” Nowamooz added. “With an increased request for a variety of plant-based dishes, this outpost will have a more vegetable-rich approach with a more modern, tailored menu.”
Beyond the familiar menu, customers can expect other Hungry’s staples such as an expansive patio and in-house delivery. Beverage options will include different styles of cocktails and a lengthy wine list.
Like the Rice Village location, the Woodway restaurant will feature interior design by local firm Palmer Brook Schooley. Details include an indoor-outdoor bar and a dog-friendly patio.
