4 things to know in Houston food right now: Creative crepe cakes, openings, and the Bread Man delivers
Editor’s note: Houston’s restaurant scene moves pretty fast. In order to prevent CultureMap readers from missing anything, let’s stop to look around at all the latest news to know.
Openings
New York-based bakery Lady M has returned to the Galleria for a pop-up that will last until the summer. Located in the food court near the skating rink, the shop will sell Lady M’s signature Mille Crêpe Cake (made with 20 layers of crepes) as both whole cakes and slices. Flavors include classics like the Signature Mille Crêpes and Green Tea Mille Crêpes as well as newcomers like Butter Pecan Mille Crêpes and Marron Mille Crêpes.
Louisiana-based fast food restaurant Raising Cane’s will open two new Houston-area locations this Thursday, December 8 in North Houston at 140 W. Airtex Blvd. and in Deer Park at 8055 Spencer Hwy. Each restaurant will celebrate its grand opening with a special “Lucky 20” drawing that will provide 20 customers (aged 13 and older) with “Free Cane’s for a Year.” Entries will be accepted from 8-8:45 am with a drawing held at 9 am (must be present to win).
In addition to the drawing, North Houston will donate $2,500 to Make-A-Wish Gulf Coast and host a car show from 3-5 pm. Deer Park’s opening celebration will feature an appearance by KRBE’s Roula Christie (1-3 pm) and a performance by the Laporte High School Cheerleaders and Chatos Dance Team.
Going forward, both restaurants will open daily at 10 am.
Montgomery’s Woodforest neighborhood recently welcomed a new upscale sports bar. Beerforest (2295 Woodforest Pkwy North) features 36 beers on tap, including selections from Houston’s craft breweries, along with cocktails, wine, and spirits.
Customers can pair their drinks with pub grub such as fried pickle chips, nachos, wings, a burger, and flatbreads. Brunch is also available.
Catch the game on any of 10 TVs, including six on a covered, climate-controlled patio.
“When I was presented with the opportunity to open an upscale sports bar in Woodforest, I didn’t hesitate,” owner Zack Kuru said in a statement. “We love everything about this community and feel privileged to serve its residents.”
