Up on the Roof
EaDo's new rooftop spot will shake up Houston's cocktail scene
Houstonians have demonstrated their love for patio bars time after time, but the city still offers relatively few rooftop bars. That's sort of a shame, because Houston's dramatic downtown skyline deserves to be appreciated from as many angles as possible.
Dominic Moreau wants to help fix this problem by elevating Houston's bar scene. He's leased space in the heart of EaDo's bustling nightlife district (2119 Dallas St.) for a rooftop concept called Sunset. As illustrated in the photo above, the third floor space offers a prime position for observing part of downtown's central business district.
“I wanted to do something different in what’s quickly becoming Houston’s most up-and-coming neighborhood,” Moreau says in a statement. “I hope that guests, both residents and visitors to the city alike, are able to enjoy seeing a whole new side of Houston.”
In addition to the view, Moreau plans for Sunset to stand out by focusing on martinis. A rotating cast of DJs and lounge singers will help give the space the proper vibe.
To help fund the project, Moreau has turned to the NextSeed platform. He's looking to raise at least $75,000. In addition to having their investment paid back at a 1.4x multiple over a 48 month term, investors also receive perks ranging from an invite to the bar's launch party to credits for a future happy hour. As of Monday, December 10, 61 people have invested just over $50,000 in the project.
Houstonians have demonstrated their affection for watching movies on a rooftop. In 2019, they'll have another opportunity to drink on one, too.
