Mo Rocca explores the slutty side of breakfast in H-Town

For some people, Sunday is about waking up and repenting for Saturday night. For others, it's about doing the same thing all over again.
For an exposé on the boozy brunch, Mo Rocca and the CBS Sunday Morning show hit Houston and headed to Backstreet Cafe and RDG to see what all the fuss was about.
The hilarious report, "Brunch: Breakfast's Slutty Sister" airs on this Sunday's morning show sometime between 8 and 9:30 a.m. — meaning no one featured in the report will ever be awake to see it.
"I experienced it with my Houston pals, my posse, my brunch bunch, although that sounds way too old lady-ish," Rocca tells CultureMap. "It was boozy, it was fun, it was confessional: My friend Steve Henry announced he wasn't sure where he left his underwear. Brunch is a great time to catch up with friends and track down underwear missing from the night before."

Backstreet Cafe owner Tracy Vaught says the feature came as something of a surprise.
"We've been serving brunch 20 years, maybe more. It's the most popular lunch shift by far, we can serve up to 600 people at Backstreet," Vaught says. "I don't think its changed very much, we're concentrating more on interesting cocktails than we used to, but really the eggs and that kind of thing has been consistently popular over the years. It's luxurious and inexpensive."
Rocca says he was particularly impressed by the grapefruit margarita and lobster meatballs from RDG and the drinks and banana-stuffed French toast at Backstreet, especially the "very mysterious" Violet Hour.
One thing he's still searching for on a brunch menu? "I'm looking for a brunch spiked Slush Puppie — a Slosh Puppie," Rocca says.
What makes Houston brunch the best? Rocca has a theory.
"Basically, brunch is the slutty sister of breakfast, we all know that," he says. "And Houston brunch is fabulous chance for Houston to be extra slutty. New York is slutty every day.
"During the week Houston is so straight-laced, business-like, it's a breakfast culture. But on the weekend Houston is boozy, slathered in hollandaise sauce and can barely get out of bed by noon."
