More than pints: The best beer dinners for foodies during Houston Beer Week
Beer dinners: So trendy and ubiquitous that hipsters are totally over them. But we aren't. Houston Beer Week has put together some amazing brewers and a few of Houston's best chefs to create menus that foodies won't want to miss in this Nov. 12 through 18 suds festival.
Too many too choose from? Here are your best bets.
On Sunday, Houston's newest beer guys, Karbach Brewing Company, are teaming up with one of Houston's coolest hangouts, Down House, for a five-course dinner that will showcase the talents of Down House chef Benjy Mason as well as the Karbach brews, including one unreleased beer and some beer cocktails. Tickets are $40.
When you combine the kitchen skills of Chris Shepherd (of the forthcoming Underbelly) and Haven's Randy Evans, beers from Mikkel Borg Bjergsø of Mikkeller and Jeff Stuffings from Jester King Brewing, and throw in host Kevin Floyd of Hay Merchant and Anvil Bar & Refuge, you know it's gonna be an unforgettable experience.
The Haven joint beer dinner on Nov. 14 is limited to 40 people and costs $120 per person.
Beer Week's hottest tickets might be to the Clandestine Beer Dinner on Nov. 15, held in an undisclosed location by Jonathan Jones of Beaver's, Chris Shepherd, Ben Fullelove of Petrol Station and Kevin Floyd. For a shot at the $150 tickets, you better sweet-talk Floyd, who is selling the only 20 tickets remaining.
If the Clandestine Dinner is a little out of your reach, head to El Gran Malo that night for some of Saint Arnold's sold-out Divine Reserve 11, plus hop-infused tequilas and small bites.
Craft beer isn't a boys club anymore. Ladies of Craft Beer is hosting a cocktail hour and dinner with Real Ale and Monica Pope at t'afia on Nov. 17, with tickets on sale for $45.
Looking for a beer dinner with a more relaxed vibe? Also on Nov. 17, Liberty Station is hosting three Texas breweries — Karbach, Saint Arnold and Austin's 512 — in addition to food truck faves The Modular, Eatsie Boys and H-Town StrEATS for a six-course Food Truck Beer Dinner. Tickets are $50.
Just in case you had any doubt that the North Coast Beer Dinner at Vic & Anthony’s on Nov. 18 would be amazing, the organizers have gone ahead and posted the seven-course menu. If Galveston Bay oysters, rabbit sausage and bacon-wrapped boar loin don't get you excited, North Coast founder Tom Allen will also be there to talk about his beers.
Tickets are scarce, so pick your favorite and reserve a spot before all that's left are suds.
