A beer with a knockdown punch: New 65 percent alcohol brew is the world's mostpowerful
Scottish brewing company Brewmeister claims to have created the world's strongest brew: Meet Armageddon, the beer with 65 percent alcohol by volume (ABV) — compared to the average content of three to seven percent ABV.
The ingredients are simple — crystal malt, wheat, flaked oats and 100 percent Scottish spring water — and the makers insist that, despite its high alcohol content, the beer has a "malty, hoppy, slightly sweet" flavor and an allegedly "viscous quality" that comes from the freeze fermentation method used to create it.
Brewmeister warns that it should be consumed "like a fine whisky."
If Armageddon is verified by the Guinness Book of World Records, it will usurp the title of "Strongest Beer Ever Sold" from BrewDog's The End of History, another Scottish-made beer coming in at 55 percent ABV.
United Kingdom beer buffs can have their first sample at the Inverness Beer Festival on Nov. 3, but American audiences may have to wait a bit longer for the £40-per-330 ML-bottle brew.
