Pastafarians rejoice: Houston restaurant giving free pastas to diners & helpingthe hungry too
The season of giving usually comes at the end of the year, but after Houston restaurants raised more than $1.2 million for the Houston Food Bank during Houston Restaurant Weeks, it seems like everyone is making meals count this month with special charity contributions.
In addition to the Month of Giving at Fleming's in River Oaks and the numerous charitable pink-hued treats, another restaurant chain with a Houston location is making a difference by donating meals to those in need.
For three years Maggiano's Little Italy has packed a to-go portion of their nine Classic Pasta entree offerings everytime a diner ordered one at the restaurant, dubbing the deal "Today & Tomorrow." Since then they have sent home six million portions of dishes including four-cheese ravioli, Mom's lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs and Taylor Street baked ziti with their customers.
For the month of October, Maggiano's is extending that promotion to help the hungry. This month every time a customer orders from the Classic Pasta menu, not only will they receive a second portion to take home, but Maggiano's will also donate another meal to Feeding America, the country's largest hunger-relief charity.
On Monday, diners can help Maggiano's reach its goal of donating a million meals nationwide even without ordering those delicious carbs. Maggiano's is giving a pasta both to customers and to charity for every entree ordered that day — so even if you pick chicken piccata or a New York strip steak, you'll still get a free pasta dish to-go, and Feeding America will get one as well.
“The fall season is synonymous with giving and gathering around the table with family and friends, and it is only fitting to combine these two traditions to help the 50 million Americans who are struggling to put food on the table,” Matt Knott, interim president and CEO of Feeding America said in a statement.
“We are honored to work with Maggiano’s to extend the generosity of Classic Pastas and provide restaurant guests with a unique opportunity to help give meals to those in need.”
