Goodbye, Gourmet: Condé Nast axes four mags

In a move media watchers had been awaiting—and dreading — for months, Condé Nast announced on Monday it will immediately close four magazines due to declining ad pages and revenue. On the hit list: Praised parenting mag Cookie, Elegant Bride, Modern Bride, and most notably, Gourmet. After a review by consulting group McKinsey & Company, many predicted that one of Condé's foodie bibles, Gourmet and Bon Apetit! would have to go, though with icon editor Ruth Reichl and it's longer, more illustrious history—over 68 years of publishing)—few had Gourmet pegged as the loser of the epicurean battle.
