New faces bring change to Clear Lake restaurant that suffered unexpected loss
Cullen’s American Grill and Whisk(e)y Bar, the massive restaurant in Clear Lake, has begun the process of moving on from the unexpected death of its longtime general manager Ryan Roberts. On Monday, the restaurant announced that it has hired Mario Plaza to fulfill Roberts's former post, and, in a surprise move, revealed that executive chef David Coffman has been replaced by Daniel R. Terrell.
"Cullen’s is an extraordinary restaurant," said owner Kevin Munz in a statement, "and it depends on people with extraordinary talent, vision, and command of their craft. These positions also require an extraordinary commitment. So I have to have the best. And these pros fit the bill."
Plaza brings experiences from Michigan, Florida and the Royal Sonesta Hotels in Houston and New Orleans to his position. Terrell is a native Texas with 20 years experience cooking in professional kitchens. His resume includes stints working for both Reef chef/owner Bryan Caswell and Bramble chef/owner Randy Rucker, as well as an extensive catering career that includes projects for Cirque de Soleil, the Shell Houston Open and the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
As for Coffman, who worked with Roberts to establish fast casual Italian restaurant Bravissimo and craft bar 'Merica within Cullen's, a representative confirms his departure and says simply "we wish him well in his future endeavors."
