He's figured out that all-night diners don't have to be dingy and that people will buy $14 sandwiches, and now he's eying the Texas statehouse. Marc Katz, who runs the original Katz's Deli and Bar in Austin (his son Barry runs the Houston locations after winning a lawsuit against his father), hasn't yet filed his papers declaring his candidacy, but he told the Austin Business Journal he plans to run. Currently lacking any other confirmed rivals for the Democratic nod (he'd most likely be facing Republican incumbent David Dewhurst in the election; Dewhurst announced plans last week to run for re-election), Katz's only political experience is a failed bid to be the mayor of Austin.
But who knows? Wouldn't it be nice if the DPS never klosed?
