Coming to Rice Village
Tacos, bao, and Indonesian ice cream are on deck for Rice Village's new food hall
Houston's next food hall is starting to take shape. Politan Row, the Rice Village property from the owners of St. Roch Market in New Orleans, has revealed its first three vendors.
They are:
- Breaking Bao, a permanent location for Phillip Kim's popular, Chinese-inspired food truck
- Cochinita & Co, a taco and ceviche concept from chef Victoria Elizondo
- Susu Kopi and Boba, an Indonesian-inspired cafe that will serve coffee and soft-serve ice cream from sisters Ecky and Niken Prabanto
In addition to the three vendors, the food hall will feature Bar Politan, an agave-focused cocktail bar created by the company's corporate beverage director Sophie Burton. The menu will feature her riffs on classic cocktails with names that celebrate different aspects of Houston's history.
All three of today's announced vendors bring substantial experience to their roles. Kim's food truck has earned acclaim for his creative take on traditional sandwiches. The menu includes the obligatory pork belly as well as a Thai-style pork larb and Korean fried chicken.
Currently the sous chef at Decatur Bar and Pop-Up Factory, Elizondo is a Hugo Ortega alum with a passion for the cuisine of her native Mexico. Cochinita & Co. features the chef's take on classic Mexican dishes made with natural ingredients. Moving from pop-up to food hall will allow Elizondo to expand her menu by adding ceviches to the tacos she features every Tuesday at Decatur.
As one of the founders of Greenway Coffee, Ecky Prabanto probably needs no introduction. Working with co-founder David Buehrer, she and her sister Niken have played key roles in the operations of acclaimed Houston coffee shops Blacksmith, Morningstar, and, most recently, Tropicales. At Susu Kopi, they'll feature drinks and ice cream inspired by Indonesia, their birthplace.
Slated to open this fall, Politan Row will feature 10 restaurant, a coffee shop, and a cocktail bar. The food hall is still on the hunt for its final vendors. Interested chefs may apply via the Politan Row website.
