Restaurant switcheroo: French jewel moves to Sugar Land; 'Crazy Chef' spot totake its place
There are those who think that being the best restaurant in the suburbs is like being the skinniest kid at fat camp. Those people have clearly never eaten at Frédéric Perrier's delightful Aura in Missouri City. (Or at many, many other outside-the-beltway favorites, but I digress.)
After five years of running the 50-seat French jewel box, Perrier is moving the concept downtown. To downtown Sugar Land, that is, also known as Sugar Land Town Square.
As first reported by Alison Cook, Aura is being reborn inside the new urbanist center as Aura Brasserie Moderne, a 2,045-square-foot spot in the former Shogi Hibachi Express location, with an opening scheduled for September or October.
However, Missouri City fans aren't losing out. When the new Aura opens, the current Aura space will be transformed into Coco Pazzo (Italian for 'crazy chef'), an Italian concept that will also retain some Aura favorites. Cook says Perrier will be bringing back his former associate Jose Alem to run the new concept.
The restaurant switch-up will increase Perrier's tally of spaces in Fort Bend county to three. He also owns a casual French/Southern food joint called, memorably, Hoggs N Chicks.
