The monster's ball is over: Ray's Franks/Hung Burgers closed
Good-bye, scissor sticks. Ray's Franks, we hardly knew you.
It was only as far back as 2009 that Ray's Franks opened in a quiet corner of Nance in the warehouse district downtown. The monster-themed burgers and overloaded hot dogs were a hit among those who found their way there.
Even after ownership changed earlier this year, bringing a less themed menu, more vegetarian offerings and a new name — Hung Burgers — but serving up the same tasty, creative spins on grill classics. Not to mention the scissor sticks, thin sliced and fried jalepeño and onion strings.
But now Hung Burgers has disconnected the phones, and the space is by all appearances closed. But fans have a sliver of hope: The Ray's Franks website says it's closed "for the time being, due to maintenance."
But for now, at least, farewell, Chupacabra. King Kong, we'll miss you.
