Bottoms Up!
Americas' David Cordua conjures up the perfect cocktail for a celebrity guest
For the July edition of CultureMap's Bottoms Up! feature, we figured who better to spotlight over the Fourth of July than David Cordúa of Américas?
We hit the River Oaks location with a special celebrity cocktail shaker in tow — Mix 96.5's own Maria Todd — to have a taste of Cordua's new frozen avocado margarita. Part of the restaurant's summer series spotlighting ingredients native to Latin America, it's inspired by rich and creamy avocado.
More smoothie-like than your traditional frozen marg, Cordua joked that his creation could be the next meal replacement fad. It's certainly tasty enough. Made with a quarter of an avocado with a touch of egg white for texture and garnished with salted grape tomatoes, we could have drank them over a plate of Américas' plantain chips all day.
Make Américas frozen Avocado Margarita at home:
You'll need:
2 limes, cut into eights
1 orange, quartered
1 oz. simple syrup
1/2 oz, Triple Sec
1.5 oz. tequila
1/2 oz. egg whites
1/4 avocado
1 cup ice
3 peeled, salted grape tomatoes
Muddle lime and orange in simple syrup, add Triple Sec and tequila and strain into a blender. Add avocado and egg whites and blend for around 30 seconds until smooth. Pour into a rocks glass and garnish with skewered tomatoes dipped in salt. Salud!
