A new best breakfast contender: A Heights market ups the ante on made-from-scratch mornings
Houston's breakfast scene's improved with the roll out of a small weekday menu at Revival Market featuring diner fare with a locally-sourced twist — think made-from-scratch buttermilk biscuits with scrambled yard eggs, house-made yogurt with seasonal fruit.
Menu items range from $4.95 for the yogurt and granola or steel cut oatmeal to $9.95 for the Revival Breakfast, a generous serving of sunny side up eggs, breakfast sausage, harvest toast, seasonal jam and butter.

Breakfast sandwiches include the aforementioned Buttermilk Biscuit Sandwich with scrambled eggs, country ham and cheddar for $4.95 and a Croissant Sandwich with scrambled yard eggs, turkey and arugula for $6.95, but I heartily recommend the Breakfast Salumi Sandwich, with a perfectly fried egg on a bed of mixed greens, a pile of house-cured meats and a spread of brown butter aioli on a challah bun for $7.95 — best enjoyed with a cold brew coffee.
Sides start at $2.95 and include bacon and sausages, granola and yogurt, breakfast potatoes and bread with jam and butter.
Don't think that means the end for Revival's Saturday breakfast, an all-out single-offering like bagels with lox or English muffins or kolaches, often requiring a full week of preparation and drawing an out-the-door line. Follow the market on Twitter for mouthwatering sneak peeks.
The new breakfast runs from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Monday through Friday and from 8 to 11 a.m. on Sunday.
