Grocery Wars Heat Up
Grocery wars heat up: A new giant supermarket is opening in Houston area — and targeting Whole Foods
King of affordable organic produce, Sprouts Farmers Market is expanding its Texas presence with four new stores scheduled to open in late summer. And one of the biggest Sprouts supermarkets is headed to Spring.
The new Texas stores are scheduled to open in the following order:
- August 6: Hurst
- August 20: Spring
- August 27: Cedar Park
- September 10: Arlington
The new Sprouts in Spring will be a 28,000-square foot store at 20708 Kuykendahl Road. The grocery store hopes to feature produce from local farmers.
"We work closely with farmers at a local level and state level all the way up to international based on the season and consumer demand,” Sprouts director of corporate communications Donna Egan tells Community Impact Newspapers. “We do prioritize local produce to make sure we get the freshest produce we can for our customers.”
The produce assortment includes many organic items that are generally much lower than the obvious competition, Whole Foods.
This will be the fifth Sprouts in the greater Houston area — with all of them opening in the last few years.

Onsite butchers help customers with special cuts of meat or seafood or homemade burgers and sausages. The vitamin department carries thousands of vitamins, natural remedies, functional food, lifestyle support and herbal supplements.
