Restaurant shakeup: A prominent steakhouse is closing with a new concept on theway
After two years, Alvin's most well-known restaurant is closing its doors — but not for long.
The Barbed Rose Steakhouse and Seafood Company is serving its last customers at dinner on June 30, and four days later will reopen as the Coastal Crossing Grill, "a Gulf Coast Seafood house specializing in homemade, Gulf Coast fare, from South of the Border to the Florida Keys."
In addition to the main dining room, the adjacent Burger Bar at The Barbed Rose is being rebranded as Coastal Crossing Patio Bar, "a lively scene with tropical specialty drinks, bottled craft beers, live music and more."
Barbed Rose was the first of several restaurant concepts planned by Joe Schneider to make small-town Alvin a culinary destination, in addition to Norma's Cakes and Cookies, Gordon Street Tavern, Schaap Meat Market, Crust-Co Artisan Bakery and forthcoming Italian restaurant Il Manzo Rosso.
Like its predecessor, Coastal Crossing Grill will continue to be under the culinary direction of Jason Chaney and will offer some of Barbed Rose's most popular dishes.
“We wanted to create a restaurant that offered the quality cuisine we are know [sic] for, but make it more affordable and more approachable,” Schneider wrote on the restaurant website. "We are proud of our accomplishments as the Barbed Rose, and thank everyone for helping us realize our dreams for Alvin, and we look forward to kicking it up a notch with the Coastal Crossing Grill.”
