KFC's new Double Down sandwich
What will the Colonel think of next?
It may have been conceived as a publicity stunt, but America is down with the Double Down, KFC's chicken sandwich consisting of chicken breasts, bacon, cheese and a mysterious sauce.
Since their debut on April 12, 10 million Double Downs have been sold in the United States. While that might be a marker of curiousity and plenty of publicity more than an appetite for bunless chicken sandwiches, it's enough for KFC to keep the Double Down on the menu through summer.
"This is truly an example of popular demand. Our plans were to feature the product only through May 23, but millions of Double Down fans have spoken, and we won’t disappoint them," KFC marketing chief Javier Benito said in a statement.
If the Double Down continues to sell well throughout the summer, it could be added to the menu permanently.
