Charming River Oaks restaurant saves you a seat at the table for dinner and beyond
In a food-centric city like Houston, choosing a new spot for dinner can be overwhelming. If you're looking for something iconic, delicious, and tried-and-true, there's always a seat for you at Ouisie’s Table.
Tucked away in River Oaks, this hidden gem offers an elegant setting that feels just like home. In fact, the award-winning food will probably remind you of some family favorites. The chicken fried steak has won Best Chicken Fried Steak multiple times, the short rib tacos were grand champion winners with the title of Lone Star Entree, and the Black Magic Chocolate Cake and shrimp and grits boast their own impressive accolades.
Started by Elouise “Ouisie” Adams Jones in 1973, the restaurant is a Houston icon with deep family roots. The current location, opened in 1995, was designed by Ouisie herself, to make sure everyone felt right at home. Step inside, and you’ll get the distinct feeling you’re in a large Texas farmhouse — not unlike the one Ouisie grew up in.
Inside, there are three dining rooms, a wine room called Cooper’s Bin, two large stone fireplaces, and a bar. But for spring, the most sought-after dining spot is Lucy’s Porch, overlooking Bear’s Gardens. The al fresco space is brimming with Southern charm: You'll feel like you're sitting on a screened-in porch — fully air conditioned, of course, because this is Houston after all.
Ouisie's has been part of the fabric of Houston for more than four decades. Wafi Dinari has owned the restaurant for the past seven years and operated the eatery for the last 17, and he certainly feels like family to the Ouisie's crew. He’s rightfully proud of the longstanding eatery that he's been a part of.
Looking for more than dinner? Ouisie’s Table also serves an impressive weekend brunch and can accommodate private dining events and even weddings. To experience the charm for yourself, stroll in for a meal, or make plans for one of the restaurant's upcoming wine dinners. For information, call 713-528-2264 or email ouisiestable@ouisiestable.com.
