Common Bond Grows
Common Bond's first of 5 new Houston locations rises in Medical Center
The first phase of Common Bond's growth spurt has already sprouted up. The Montrose-based bakery and cafe has quietly opened its second location near the Texas Medical Center at 2278 W. Holcomb Blvd. (formerly the site of Eclair Paris).
Local firm Construction Concepts has recreated the light wood and slate gray floors of the original design, giving it the same feel as the Montrose location. Similarly, diners will find all their favorite croissants, cookies, macarons, and more in a pastry case that runs almost the full length of one wall.
Currently, the cafe only has a limited amount of seating, but owner George Joseph tells CultureMap he plans to expand into a neighboring space that will allow for more tables and a full coffee bar. That will take place as soon as the restaurant receives permit approvals from the City of Houston.
Like the pastry selection, the kitchen offers the same items diners will find in Montrose. At breakfast, the menu includes options like soft scrambled eggs, French toast with bacon, and bacon and avocado toast. For lunch and dinner, diners may opt for lighter options like salads and flatbreads or heartier items like a Nashville hot chicken sandwich and steak frites.
Joseph adds that he's been very pleased with the welcome he's received from his new customers. Exterior signage will help draw in even more people.
The Medical Center location is only the first step in Common Bond's growth plan for 2019. Up next, an outpost in The Heights Waterworks development that's slated to open in May. Other outposts are slated for Midtown, downtown, and the CityPlace mixed-use development at Springwoods Village.
