Out of Left field
Zagat makes an insane choice for best hamburger in Houston, touting it as one of 25 best in U.S.
Quintessential restaurant guide Zagat has released its "Best Burgers in 25 Cities" list and there's a bit of a surprise for Houstonians.
Any guesses?
Maybe something from a foodie fave like Hubcap Grill or Bernie's Burger Bus? Or a classic at an out-of-the-way spot like North Houston's Little Bitty Burger Barn? Or perhaps the $22 burger at Max's Wine Dive?
Nope, think again . . . To put things in perspective, Zagat highlights two other Texas burger stops — Austin's massively popular Hopdoddy Burger Bar on South Congress and Dallas' Maple & Motor, which got a shout-out from Guy Fieri on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives.
For its Houston award, Zagat has created quite the coup in picking Goode Company Hamburgers & Taqueria (4902 Kirby), touting its “honest-to-goodness mesquite-grilled burgers” and “prices that won’t bust the bank.”
As food trucks and small handcrafted joints rack up the accolades, once-beloved burger stalwarts like Goode Co. have been lost in the fray. Maybe it's time to reassess.
