Houston's hottest meal: Ouisie's Table gets into breakfast, takes on TinyBoxwood's
The hottest meal in Houston right now might be breakfast.
That's especially true starting March 1, when River Oaks favorite Ouisie's Table starts a daily breakfast service.
Already known for her rich brunches and chicken fried steak, it's been a long time since proprietor Elouise Adams Jones has turned her attention to breakfast. Fans can expect waffles, crepes, pancakes and other Texas and Gulf Coast breakfast specialties, plus breakfast inspiration from around the globe.
"It occurred to us that an awful lot is going on at 7 a.m. in Houston," says Jones. "We had several big reservations for group meetings at breakfast, and it intrigued us."
Jones says her favorite breakfast item is the short rib taco with potatoes and a cream poblano, served with a martini glass of slaw. But other options include a Moroccan herb polenta, pastries baked in-house, omelettes, crepes and even a cowboy breakfast with chicken fried steak.
Breakfast will be served in the main dining room as well as the picturesque patio — could this start a breakfast fight between Ouisie's and adorable River Oaks neighbor Tiny Boxwood's? We hope so. Houston needs its own Pat's vs. Geno's or Sally's vs. Pepe's rivalry.
