Restaurant round-up: Polo takes on Tex-Mex, more Ruggles Green, Canopy sleeps in

- Canopy is getting out of the breakfast game, serving it's American bistro fare for lunch and dinner as well as a weekend brunch.
- Saturday is the last day for theZiggy's Bar & Grill on Greenbriar and West Alabama. Fans will have to hit the Montrose location only until the new downtown outpost at the corner of Main Street and Capitol Street, set to open Feb. 5.
- Julia, the locally famous chicken that hung out around The Raven Grill, has passed away. On the restaurant Web site, a note reads, "We don’t know where she came from, only that she was a sweet bird who liked people and that she simply made us happy each time we saw her.”
- After 25 years in Rice Village, Cafe Chino has opened an airy, colorful new spot on Southwest Freeway at Edloe. Culturemap note: the Chilean sea bass with bok choy and Asian pesto is not to be missed.
- Polo Becerra of Polo's Signature and Post Oak Grill is launching a new concept: Habaneros, an "upscale casual" Mexican eatery in Midtown featuring fajitas, enchiladas, fish entrees and margaritas with a signature Becerra spin. The grand opening party is Friday, starting at 11 a.m.
- Rumors have been swirling that horror-movie-themed burger-and-hot dog emporium Ray's Franks might be closing. Owner Jose Sainz told the Houston Press that the restaurant is being sold—whether the future owners will keep the theme or the menu is up in the air.
- Ruggles Green is opening a second concept in the new Westside CityCentre development. Also set for CityCentre: Cyclone Anaya's, Brio Tuscan Grill, Potbelly Sandwich Works, Chipotle and Jamba Juice.
