Cafe Sua Da for everyone
Creative Houston ice cream shop will soon offer cool nationwide shipping option
Toasted Rice and Cafe Sua Da ice cream are going nationwide. When Cloud 10 Creamery launches its new website on February 1, nationwide shipping will be an option for the first time.
Priced at $9 per pint — the same as it costs at Cloud 10’s three local scoop shops or its recent expansion to Central Market and the Whole Foods in Midtown — the only requirement for shipping is a four-pint minimum.
“I think it’s a good way to reach out to our customers who aren’t in Houston or allow our Houston customers to share what they enjoy with friends,” chef-owner Chris Leung tells CultureMap.
All of Cloud 10’s signature flavors will be available: everything from toasted rice and Nutella with marshmallows to sea salt caramel and pandan. In addition, Cloud 10 offers four, dairy-free sorbets and novelties like push pops and Nutella cloud bars. Unfortunately, ice cream cakes are not available; Leung says they’d get too jostled during shipping.
Shipping options will range from priority overnight to ground. Leung says the company’s packaging will keep the ice cream cold. By his estimates, an order can be shipping to Florida for about $20, making it a reasonable splurge.
Custom packaging makes its clear to recipients that the box at their doorstep has ice cream inside. Overall, the launch represents a year-long effort to get Cloud 10 ready for shipping.
“Everything from the boxes to the pint design has been redone for this,” Leung says. “We hope it’s accepted. So many people like to mail order, we have to get into that market.”
Cloud 10 will celebrate the launch of its new website with a party at its Upper Kirby location (3502 South Shepherd Dr.) on February 1 from 1-4 pm. The party will include music, a raffle for Cloud 10 prizes, and, best of all, free ice cream.
