Another Montrose Closing
Longtime Montrose Tex-Mex spot shutters: Where now for fish tacos and Sunday dancing?
Fresh off the heels of Dua's departure, another longtime Montrose favorite has closed. Berryhill Baja Grill had its last service on Tuesday. The Chronicle has a statement from the company, which reads as follows:
Open since March 15, 2006, the restaurant was owned by an independent franchise owner, thus not operated or controlled by the Berryhill Corporation. The lease on the restaurant space was held by the franchisee, and the circumstances that led to the decision to close the business did not involve the Berryhill Corporation. There are no future plans by Berryhill at this location."
For years, Berryhill had the status as La Strada's successor for "Sunday Funday" thanks to a DJ that provided tunes to accompany margaritas and fish tacos, according to Eater, which offers alternatives like Rosemont Social Club and Royal Oak for those who still need a structured excuse for knocking back a couple of cocktails on Sunday.
Perhaps more interestingly is what will become of the space. With Dua getting snapped up to be the second location of Chinatown favorite Mala Sichuan, the possibilities for a space like Berryhill's with decent parking in the heart of Montrose are nearly limitless. Fingers crossed for another Bellaire favorite like Fu Fu Cafe.
In the meantime, fans of Berryhill can find their favorites at the company's eight other locations around the Houston area.
