Home on The Grange
New 2,400 home development honors Katy's history of rice farming
Another 2,400 homes are coming soon to Katy. Johnson Development announced the creation of the Grange, a 1,130-acre community ear Morton Road and FM 2855.
The name of the development harkens to the area's history, and was unveiled in a special ceremony March 21 at Beckendorff Farms in Katy.
“Historically, the Katy area was known for rice farming," Jacob W. Rice, vice president and general manager of Grange, said in a statement. “The definition of ‘grange’ is a farm or agricultural estate, which identifies with the region. We will strive to be true to this heritage and retain the character of a small town as development continues.”
Buyers should be able to begin home purchases in The Grange starting in early 2025. The houses will be zoned to the Katy Independent School District.
Lakes and greenspaces will figure prominently in the new community, allowing residents to have the feel of bucolic living, even as they are close to Katy's many amenities.
The Grange is the latest among Johnson Development's planned communities in the region. The developer's communities currently exist in Fort Bend County, Galveston County, Montgomery County, and Harris County. Johnson Development also has communities in Dallas Fort-Worth, the Austin area, and greater Atlanta.
The company recently announced it has purchased 1,500 acres of land in Fort Band County from The George Foundation, the nonprofit that operates the George Ranch historic center.
