Hidden Houston
Home of the brave: Humble community Sierra Meadows welcomes veterans
This excerpt from the documentary A Veteran's Journey From Normandy to Sierra Meadows focuses on a major issue many veterans face when returning home from service: Affordable housing.
The Sierra Meadows community, located near North Sam Houston Parkway in East Humble, is a veteran-themed, tax-credit housing facility for seniors with a mission of taking care of those who sacrificed so much for their country.
"It's been the veteran who has sustained our freedom and gives us our quality of life today. I believe it's our patriotic duty to give back to them."
"I am filled with joy in my heart to see what Sierra Meadows has done by developing this patriotic development which allows for affordable housing for our veterans and their families," says former Air Force captain and fighter pilot Scott Grady, whose story was the inspiration for the 2001 film Behind Enemy Lines.
"We owe them a great deal," he continues. "It's been the veteran who has sustained our freedom and gives us our quality of life today. I believe it's our patriotic duty to give back to them."
Produced by Scott Cluthe-Phonoscope Media Inc., the footage profiles Grady, Purple Heart recipients, governmental officials, HUD representatives, Blue Star Moms and the apartment complex. Click on the photo (above) or here to watch the video on Houston's Voice.
