Too Big To Believe
With 46 bedrooms and 26 full baths, this unique mega-mansion is in search of a special buyer
Somehow this 60,175 square-foot property on a country road outside of Manvel, Texas, missed Mother Jones "Top 10 Mega-Mansions of the Filthy Rich." Probably because the 46-bedroom house, up for sale at a cool $3.5 million, wasn't actually built as a private residence. But it's a humdinger.
A doctor and his wife, according to Good Morning America, envisioned the property as a live-in rehab facility for his patients. Apparently, that idea went south before the house was completed.
Nevertheless, with all those bedrooms, 26 full bathrooms and a nine-car garage, the place has possibilities. Sitting in the middle of 15 acres, it seems just right for one of the Lone Star State's wacky religious cults or perhaps for a zillionaire with an unbending bigger-is-better philosophy.
Amenities, yet to be finished, include large open living areas, an indoor gunite swimming pool and spa, Jacuzzi and an elevator. The house is listed by the Christy Buck Team of RE/MAX Top Realty.
For the record, the 10 mansions in the Mother Jones report are more in the 30,000 to 48,000 square foot range. Though there was a 100,000 square foot behemoth in Sagaponach, N.Y., and a 90,000 square foot mansion in Windermere, Fla.
